Large size alone is not enough. Broken roots, juvenile teeth and worn serrations can make megalodon overlap with other otodontids.

GREAT WHITE SHARK TRAP

Position in the jaw changes the outline substantially. Fossil great-white teeth may be dark or mineral stained.
